Unmanned Aerial Vehicles – What is a Drone?

What is a Drone?

A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that is either remotely controlled or moves autonomously using software, sensors, and GPS navigation.

The term "drone" comes from the English word drone, which was initially used to refer to unmanned military aircraft as early as the 20th century.

Main Types of Drones:

Civilian (Commercial) Drones

Used for photography, videography, parcel delivery, infrastructure inspections, and more.

Military Drones

Equipped with more advanced technologies for reconnaissance, surveillance, and even armed missions.

Agricultural Drones

Used for crop monitoring, fertilizer spraying, and agricultural data analysis.

Lightweight drones designed for sport competitions or recreational use.
